Weathernotes for Monday, February 18, 2002

An upper level trough and associated dynamics produced about 1/4 to 1/3 inch of rain across the area early Sunday morning. Daytime heating resulted in numerous instability showers and post-card skies.

Los Angeles (USC) recorded 0.29 inch of rain, bringing the seasonal total (since July 1) to 3.95 inches; which is 5.42 inches below normal.

Mammoth Mountain reported 15 inches of new snow from the storm. In general, snow sensors in the Sierra recorded around an inch liquid equivalent, or about 8-12 inches of snow. This should put the snowpack at about 95-100% of normal for this time of year. (The actual statewide percent of normal reported was 94% for 02/18/02.)

Today's CPC/NCEP Outlooks depicted "Below Normal" precipitation for the 6-10 day period and "Below Normal" for the 8-14 day period for Southern California.
